HOMEWARD
BOUND
strengthens mothers and
children’s resolve
during their stay at the shelter, and as they move
to permanent housing, provides practical as well as
emotional support.
Program activities include:
- “A Fresh Start” packages for families leaving
the shelter containing small appliances, kitchenware, towels,
and other necessities. HoG also provides and delivers beds,
couches, tables and chairs to our neediest families.
- The Alumni Support Group (ASG) where moms now in permanent
housing reunite at off site locations to inspire, mutually
support, and share one another’s lives, loves, hardships,
laughter and tears, and get help with entitlements. HoG staff
facilitates the group, and a meal and childcare is provided.
- Crisis Intervention, in which HoG provides security deposits
for apartments, winter coats, new shoes, strollers and other
practical help. We also provide legal counsel through the
pro-bono work of Skadden, Arps, Slate, and Meagher & Flom
LLP for special needs.
- Shelter improvements where HoG carpets, paints, furnishes,
equips, builds computer stations and organizers, renovates
backyards and decorates residents’ rooms.
HoG moves with the times, identifying emerging
problems at our three adopted shelters. We have the organizational
capacity to respond rapidly with help ensuring that our families
don’t “fall through the cracks.” Immediacy
is our motto.
